Can you get hearing aids fitted at home in the UK?
Yes. HomeSight fits hearing aids at home across Greater London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Berkshire. An HCPC registered audiologist carries out the hearing assessment, the fitting and every follow-up visit in your own home, including for housebound patients and care home residents.
There is no GP referral to arrange and no waiting list. A hearing screening is free, a full hearing assessment is £30 and refunded if you go ahead with hearing aids from HomeSight, and every package includes fitting, aftercare and a five-year warranty.
Who can have hearing aids fitted at home
Anyone in the coverage area can book a home fitting. Most of our hearing patients are people for whom a high street branch is difficult: those who cannot leave home unaccompanied, people living with limited mobility or a long-term condition, residents of care homes and sheltered housing, and families arranging hearing care for a parent. Carers and family members are welcome at every visit.
You do not need a referral from your GP, and you do not need to have had a hearing test before. If you already wear hearing aids from another provider, we can assess your hearing at home and advise whether new aids would help. Help with hearing aids you already own.
What happens when HomeSight fits hearing aids at home
Visit one: the hearing assessment
A HomeSight audiologist visits at a time that suits you. The full assessment takes about 90 minutes and covers otoscopy (looking inside both ears), pure-tone audiometry, speech-in-noise testing and tympanometry, all carried out with portable clinical equipment in your living room. You get the results explained in plain English on the day, with a copy of your audiogram. About one in six first-time assessments come back as normal for age, and if that is the case we will say so.
Visit two: the fitting
If hearing aids would help, you choose a package with your audiologist. We order the aids and return to fit them at home, programme them to your audiogram and show you and any family members how to wear, charge and clean them. The fitting visit is shorter than the assessment, and your audiologist will tell you how long to allow when the appointment is booked.
Follow-up visits
New hearing aids usually take two to six weeks to get used to, because the brain has to relearn high-frequency sounds it has not heard for years. We schedule follow-up visits at week two and week six to fine-tune the settings, and further aftercare visits are included in every package.
If earwax is found at the first visit, we can remove it at home by microsuction for £80, using the same audiologist, before any hearing test is finalised.
How much do hearing aids fitted at home cost
HomeSight prices are per pair of rechargeable hearing aids and include the home fitting, personalised set-up, aftercare visits and a five-year warranty. The £30 assessment fee is refunded against any package.

Are hearing aids fitted at home available on the NHS?
Not through HomeSight. HomeSight hearing care is a private service, so the assessment and the hearing aids are not NHS-funded. NHS hearing aids are arranged through your GP and a hospital or community audiology department, and some NHS services do offer domiciliary visits for patients who cannot travel; waiting times vary by area. What you get in return for the private fee is speed and continuity: the same audiologist at every appointment, no waiting list, and rechargeable aids from current Widex and Rexton ranges. HomeSight NHS work is on the eye care side, where it has been an NHS-contracted provider of home eye tests since 2010.
Which hearing aids can be fitted at home
HomeSight fits rechargeable aids from Widex (Allure 110, 220, 330 and 440 AI) and Rexton (Reach 20 to 80). All packages come with a charger; Enhanced and Best include a portable charger, telecoil and app control for streaming and hands-free calls with a compatible phone, and Best adds a remote control. Your audiologist matches the model to your audiogram and to where you most want hearing to feel easier: quiet conversation at home, television and family gatherings, or restaurants and groups.
Aftercare, repairs and hearing aids bought elsewhere
Aftercare visits at home are included for two, three or four years depending on the package, with a five-year warranty on the aids. We can also service most major brands of hearing aid bought elsewhere: re-tubing, cleaning, troubleshooting and re-programming where the manufacturer software allows, for a fixed £45 home visit fee. Can a family member or carer be present?
Yes, and we encourage it, especially for the fitting visit so that someone else in the household knows how the aids charge and clean.
What happens if I am not happy with the hearing aids?
